Job Description
The Engineer - Operational Safety, Quality & Risk Management is a pivotal role within Sanad MRO's Aviation & Aero Engine MRO Operations, responsible for executing safety and quality management processes critical to maintaining operational approvals. Reporting to the Manager of Operational Safety, Quality & Risk Management, this position involves conducting risk assessments, maintaining the risk register, monitoring risk levels, and supporting mitigation activities. The engineer also plays a key role in investigating safety and quality events, ensuring that root causes and contributing factors, including human factors, are identified accurately. The role includes performing independent surveillance activities and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, internal procedures, and processes to uphold the highest standards of operational safety and quality.
Responsibilities
- Manage operational tasks related to the Safety Management System (SMS), including reviewing, developing, and maintaining safety procedures aligned with aviation regulations and industry best practices.
- Support communication with regulatory authorities and customers regarding SMS implementation and investigation outcomes.
- Contribute to LEAN and Six Sigma projects to enhance safety, quality, and operational efficiency, identifying opportunities for process improvements and supporting their execution using structured methodologies.
- Assist in identifying, assessing, and monitoring operational risks; maintain and update the risk register to ensure visibility of risk exposure and support timely risk mitigation efforts.
- Participate in risk-related meetings, workshops, and validation sessions to inform decision-making and approvals.
- Support thorough investigations of safety and quality events, including defining containment measures, root causes, and corrective/preventive actions, with follow-up to monitor effectiveness.
- Conduct shop-floor observations, review visual records, and engage with stakeholders to gather evidence, contributing to investigation reports and lessons learned for continuous improvement.
- Perform risk-based surveillance monitoring as per approved procedures to assess risk levels and operational discipline, verify effectiveness of recommendations, and coordinate resolution efforts.
- Provide practical recommendations for improvement and contribute to regular shop-floor inspections.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned by the Manager - Operational Quality and Safety to support department objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Aviation Management, Quality and Safety, or a related field; alternatively, an ICAO type II Aircraft Maintenance license.
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience may substitute for the required degree.
- 5 to 8 years of experience in quality and safety management within an aviation or MRO environment, preferably in engine shops with an emphasis on human factors.
- Proven experience managing findings in an MRO environment and applying quality management systems to drive process improvements.
- Proficiency in structured problem-solving tools and methodologies for continuous improvement and regulatory compliance.
Skills
- Advanced knowledge of aviation regulations governing MRO operations, including compliance with GCAA, EASA, FAA, CAAC, and UKCAA standards.
- Strong understanding and application of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and Quality Management Systems (QMS).
- Expertise in investigation techniques and root cause analysis within maintenance environments.
- Competence in risk management, including risk identification, assessment, monitoring, and mitigation.
- Experience with LEAN methodologies and Six Sigma for continuous process improvements.
- Proficiency in structured problem-solving tools such as 5 Whys and fishbone analysis.
- Foundational knowledge of visual management techniques for quality and safety operations.
- Skills in data analysis, visualization, and reporting using Microsoft 365 tools including Excel, Power BI, and SharePoint.
- Technical understanding of aviation product technology and MRO processes, especially in engine shops.
- Knowledge of human factors and behavioral safety principles to foster a safety-focused culture.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities for effective collaboration and information dissemination.
- Analytical thinking and innovation skills to assess challenges, derive insights, and recommend effective solutions.
Education
A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Aviation Management, Quality and Safety, or a related discipline is preferred. Alternatively, candidates holding an ICAO type II Aircraft Maintenance license with extensive relevant experience will also be considered. Continuous professional development in aviation safety, quality management, and risk mitigation is advantageous to excel in this role.
